Dan Lacroix: Joyner and Planemaker

House building in the 18th century required the skills of many tradesmen.  The carpenter hewed and assembled the timber frame, while the house joiner crafted the interior woodwork.  Hand planes were an important part of the joiner’s tool kit, and they often made their own.  Dan will discuss the work of the house joiner and the reproduction tools he has made in his effort to demonstrate how the typical 18th century architectural woodwork was made.
